Beverly Gandara

Award winning Author Beverly Gandara is a patient of Dr. Jonathan Criss, and when we discovered what an accomplished author she is, we thought we’d share her story, as well as her books with you. Our recent Facebook contest’s second place winner was treated to a copy of Bev’s book, Concrete Wings.

Why did you decide to write this book?

Concrete Wings was originally written as a screenplay which placed in a couple of contests. At the suggestion of two producers, I adapted the screenplay into a novel which I was advised would be easier to sell to Hollywood; I am still waiting.

What gave you the idea?

The idea for Concrete Wings was inspired by my husband’s experience as a naïve teen sent out of Cuba on the eve of the Bay of Pigs Invasion to retrieve smuggled family jewels.

How did you feel to win all of your awards/accolades?

2017 Literary Classic’s Seal of Approval
2017 New York Book Festival’s Honorable Mention in the General Fiction Category
2017 The Reader’s Favorite Five Star Seal

I am proud and delighted to have had my first novel, Concrete Wings, recognized.I began my writing career as a screenwriter and won the Golden Palm Award for my comedy screenplay Rent Money at the 2012 Beverly Hills International Film Festival for best screenplay. Without my husband’s support and encouragement, none of this would have been possible and it is a personal triumph for me to see his pride in me and my work.

Tell us about your second novel…

My second novel, Soaring In Silence has also been adapted from a contest placed screenplay titled Unprotected Witness co-written with Jack Knight, veteran actor of stage, screen and television. It is a drama thriller about a young handicapped woman stalked by a dangerous retiree with a hidden criminal past.

Any ideas for more novels?

Several. I believe everyone has a story. I listen to stories and as I witness life, realize there are always tales to tell.

What do you do when you are not writing?

Spend time with my husband, the love of my life. We love to read, cook, watch classic movies and entertain friends.

As for how Be feels about Dr. Criss and Florida Eye?

Both my husband and I are patients of Dr. Jonathan Criss. We respect his knowledge and expertise and that of his colleagues and support staff as well. We appreciate and are impressed by the courtesy and efficiency of the office staff.
