Diabetic Retinopathy Treatment

Why come to Florida Eye for diabetic retinopathy diagnosis and treatment?

Left undiagnosed and untreated, diabetic retinopathy can lead to severe vision loss and even total blindness. As South Florida’s premier institute for diabetic retinopathy diagnosis and treatment, we work with patients from the day they have been diagnosed with the hopes of keeping this insidious disease at bay. If a patient has already developed diabetic retinopathy, we have the most up to date treatments and technologies available to tackle the disease.

Dr. Katz

When other specialists in the field have patients they cannot assist, it is well known in the area that Dr. Katz is the surgeon to call. Perhaps that’s why former Florida Governor Charlie Christ appointed Dr. Katz as head of the State Diabetes Advisory Board for several years. Or it could simply be because of his expertise, passion for what he does and his results.

Dr. Katz specializes in the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, and other diseases of the retina and vitreous. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the national Board of Medical Examiners, Dr. Katz earned his fellowship in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous at the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas under the preceptorship of Dr. Alice McPherson. Dr. Katz has been practicing in his field for twenty years and for the last five has also served as Director of the Ambulatory Surgery Center, located at Florida Eye Microsurgical Institute.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Katz grew up in Central New Jersey and earned his medical degree at Mount Sinai’s School of Medicine in New York. He completed both his internship and his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Katz has been practicing in Florida for most of his career and as a partner at Florida Eye for the last five years.

Dr. Katz is an experienced ophthalmologist and surgeon, having diagnosed and treated thousands of patients suffering from macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other retinal conditions over the years. Well respected by his peers, he spends much of his time taking on cases other surgeons shy away from, specifically those involving trauma situations, newborns and young children. Dr. Katz is the only retinal specialist in Palm Beach County treating retinopathy of prematurity, a condition that when left untreated, leads to irreversible blindness in children.

Thank you for your care of my mother over the years that you were her ophthalmologist. Mom was a bright woman, a former vice-president and head of the Social Action Committee of an international women’s organization. With your help, she was able to retain the sight in one eye, which enabled her to continue attending conferences, making speeches, reading, etc. She was very grateful to you for that, as am I

Cordially, Ellen

Just want to thank the doctors at Florida Eye for all of your support through this process. You helped ease my worries since the day of my ER visit and throughout the surgery. I really appreciate it.

Best, Judy Nguyen
